I feel the constant, nagging need to write, and this is what keeps coming up.
~~~Song of the Soul~~~
Song of My Soul, song of desire;
False Euphoria taking me higher,
Where's the inspiration?
What's wrong with imagination?
I call you back to fill this void,
When I don't want to be a mundane droid.
I need you to fill this empty space,
Wipe away the tears behind my smiling face.
Speak for me, sing for me, Poet within -
Closer to me than blood and kin.
Sing for me the Song of My Soul,
Sing for them simply to cajole,
Their empty hearts and heads;
The one's better off dead.
Sing for them, sing for me, sing for yourself,
Continue singing, leaving dreams dying upon that dusty shelf.Fatally Yours,
Dead End Poet
Hey! Another one! Along the same lines yet different regarding the elusive muse within. Sometimes she speaks and sometimes she roars... and other times she remains silent like a quiet snow-covered pre-dawn morning. Solitude and rest, at those times.
RYC: I've said it before, but I consider my poems "songs without music waiting to be sung." They rhyme all too often, and although 3 have been published in online magazines, most aren't very good. Usually I feel inspiration like what you wrote, only to find (days after the magic of inspiration gone) that my poems have lost their magic. A few, however, slip through with the magic I felt.
I know when I used to write more philosophical and metaphysical pieces, I would be inspired and think, "Surely this will affect many and color their lives!" Then I would realize the piece I wrote was solely for me, with (perhaps) a few other souls enriched by what I wrote. I needed what I wrote (more than the world needed it).
That's why I stick to fiction and short stories. lol!
I read your entries and I keep thinking, I was there! I've had--and often continue to have--the same questions. Thank you for finding words for the song...
PS: I'm working on posting a reply to your last entry.
