see relatedWords Reflecting the Past. [these are my strongest memories, the ones I always think I've forgotten]
~~~Memory Lane~~~
A harsh road never paved in gold,
only meant for those daring and bold -
the one's without guilt or shame;
the one's who want you to know their name.I've travelled this path alone,
bearing scars and wounds unsewn,
reclaiming memories of home.Never once have I returned
feeling that I had earned
anything but painful memories,
and gut-wrenching miseries.Ghosts of the past
haunt this graveyard of memory,
and corpses unburied
lie rotting along the path,
screaming in agony.I could paint you a pretty picture,
but what justice would it do
to lie through my teeth?
My skin falling from my face.These aren't gold bricks under my feet,
And I'm not really friends with these corpses you meet,
But we're lovers of an earlier time,
Enemies even lost in rhyme.I could draw you sunshine and roses,
while on my dreams the door closes;
But what good would it do,
to just keep lying to you?I can hide my past and bury the corpses,
but the digging never ends
when they've worked their fingers to the bone.
Now they never rest even on holiday.So we sit down to tea,
have a cup with the counterparts of me;
relish in the rotting memories of our past,
just the ghosts and I fading fast.A little bit of both for you poetry nuts. Free-form in combination with rhyme; a definite no-no, but why should I care? This is writing for myself, these are words not concerned with an audience. So tell me, in comparison to yesterday, how am I fairing?
"how's your heart these days?"
"beating slower every minute."Fatally Yours,
